Portland New Music Society is an informal group of musicians, composers and sound artists in the greater-Portland-area who create experimental improvised and composed music. The New Music Society was started in June 2006 by Brandon Conway and Branic Howard with the help of J.P. Jenkins and Jonathan Sielaff. Since then, the group has put on many concerts at various venues around Portland (see Events and Photos pages for past events). These concert events often include first-time collaborations, debut performances and group/audience participation pieces. If you would like to perform at an upcoming event, please contact Brandon Conway (pdxnewmusic@yahoo.com). In addition to these performances, the Portland New Music Society also presents bi-monthly Listening Parties at which members gather informally to share food, drink and new, recorded music. In the future, Portland New Music would like to commission works from local composers, host like-minded, touring musicians and sponsor lectures and workshops related to experimental composed and improvised music. We’re always looking for ideas so if you have one, pass it along. Whether you are a musician or just a lover of unusual music, please feel free to drop in on a concert event or listening party and check us out.
Thanks, Brandon |
